Learning to set goals that will actually change your life.
With the new year here, most people typically make resolutions/goals centered around weight loss. What they find is that within a month or so they’re unable to keep up with it and get discouraged. I think a reason for this is because the goal is to “lose weight”, as opposed to deciding to live a healthier life. Hear me out! When you make a decision to live healthier and better, there are a sequence of things you plan to improve and start to do, without necessarily setting numbers and deadlines, that often times are unrealistic (if we’re being honest). Habit changing and mindset shifts are what produce lasting results.
This is the time to start working on changing habits. For me, the most important change should be centered around your mindset. I don’t think people realize how powerful their minds really are.
When your mind is cluttered with negativity: it’s limited and produces fear; doubt; insecurities; and prevents us from taking actions that get us closer to our goals. Positive thinking is: empowering; increases your creativity; allows you to focus on solutions as opposed to focusing on limitations; helps you prioritize and take actions; and produces positive emotions. If you look this stuff up you will see the research that is done and how incredible these findings are. This is why having a positive mindset is important.

I created this graphic to help me prioritize the things that actually matter in my life. It’s a reminder not to dwell on the things that don’t matter, but to declutter my mind and my life, and fill them with the things that do. While I have many personal and professional goals for this coming year, I will continue to ensure that my mindset and health remain a priority. The right mindset allows me to live more intentionally and purposefully. It keeps my focus on the right things and allows me to hear God better. These goals will allow me to take back control over my life and my mind, and pursue the things that GOD has in store for me.
I’m sharing these with you so that you too can find freedom in truly living, and controlling what is inhabiting your mind and your life. I pray that your 2020 is filled with joy, peace, hope, success, rewarding risks, great health, better relationships, great self-esteem, self care, and endless possibilities.
