How An At-Home Whitening Kit Taught Me to Smile Again!
So if you’re anything like me or everybody else for that matter, then you have a few insecurities floating around. I definitely have a few that I’m working on overcoming, and will be sharing with you all. One of those insecurities is my teeth. Ok, let me preface this by saying I have had compliments on my smile many times before. But, that doesn’t mean that I am always in agreement with them. Insecurities are subjective and an internal struggle that we must learn to overcome.
I’m not a coffee drinker (shockingly a few of us do exist out there), but I do enjoy tea multiple times a week, and the occasional wine when at social gatherings. To start, I didn’t have very yellow teeth, just the average slightly-yellowy-hue that most of us experience. But, I wanted the bright white smile you see your favorite actress or singer wearing. It didn’t help that I had some slanting of my teeth so they aren’t perfectly linear to begin with.
Path to Whitening
My first experience with whitening strips was a few weeks before my wedding. I refused to have anything but perfectly white teeth in all the pictures I was going to take, on one of the most memorable days of my life! (Is that too much to ask? I didn’t think so either lol). At that time, I tried Crest Whitening strips and I liked the results but experienced a lot of sensitivity from them, and the strips didn’t sit well enough because my teeth are more slanted on one side. I used the strips on/off a few times over the years whenever I needed a whiter looking smile. I haven’t used any for the past 2-3 years though, because I was working on becoming debt free and making major budget cuts.
My blogging journey started at the beginning of this year, and my husband asked me why I wasn’t smiling much in my social media pictures. I didn’t even think about what I was doing until I started browsing through my social media channels and noticed a pattern over the years. For the first time, I noticed that I was smiling less and less in my pictures, and posing more with my head down or face turned away from the camera. This was a stark difference to me full faced and teeth fully exposed like prior. I couldn’t believe that I allowed this insecurity to reduce or stop me from smiling much anymore in photos! Was I also doing this in real life? I am the person promoting self-care yet I wasn’t really practicing it in this area.
When Smile Brilliant reached out to me about trying their product, I was more than eager to do it because I was going to get dentist grade whitening but at home! I admit I was a bit skeptical at first though. Was this going to be complicated? Would my teeth be more sensitive with this higher grade of whitening? Would the trays sit well with my slanted teeth?
The Process
The process was very simple:
-
I answered some questions about my dental history
-
They sent me a package to make my teeth molds with easy instructions
-
I sent the teeth molds back to them in the provided envelope.
-
My whitening trays were mailed to me
I was nervously thinking if it would work since my teeth weren’t too linear.
Once I received my custom-fitted whitening trays, I was surprised to find out the trays truly were a direct replica of my teeth.
What?!!! I was so excited! I started the whitening process every day (with the exception of 2 missed days because life happens) and it was so simple.
My husband noticed my smile becoming whiter within a week and each session it became whiter than the previous. I didn’t experience any sensitivity because Smile Brilliant sends you a desensitizing gel to use after every whitening session. My results were great! Although I can’t naturally make my teeth less slanted, I am now smiling more and love showing off my whiter smile. I definitely plan to continue using this product going forward.
