I remember the days when I would look forward to date nights and special treats on Valentine’s Day…until I had kids 🙂 Ok, so my husband and I love date nights, are always looking for date night ideas and we make it a priority for our relationship when we can…but it’s a lot harder with 2 kids and no consistent babysitter. Can you relate?
Because of this, we’ve been forced to get creative and have date nights at home. If you’re looking for some creative ways to have date nights at home while the kids sleep, here are some suggestions below that we’ve tried or plan to in the future:
Creative Date Night Ideas At Home
Netflix and Chill Take out
This is one spinoff of the classic dinner and a movie. Order take out, decide on a movie, and set your living room or bedroom to feel like a movie theater: lights off, snacks/food, movie on your largest flat screen TV. This also means putting your phones on vibrate or silent since you don’t answer your phone at the theaters!
Game night
We love game night. Choose a game that both of you find to be fun, or try one you’ve never tried. My husband and I love the app version of the game Heads Up! Try it and you won’t want to stop. For
Club…What’s that?
Do you love music? If so, then throw your hands in the air, and wave them like you just don’t care! (hopefully you get the reference, if not then I need to check your playlist). We love music and there’s always music being played in our house. If you don’t have a babysitter, no worries! Get dressed, turn down the lights, play some music (loud enough to here but not wake the kids) and dance the night away with your partner. You are the DJ so you get to play your favorite songs. You can create a playlist in advance either through youtube, pandora, iTunes, etc and already have it ready to go.
Bubble bath
This may not be doable for everyone. If it’s possible, fill the tub with warm soapy water (think liquid body soap, bath bombs, etc), have some soft music playing, glass of wine or champagne, get in and enjoy each other’s company. This is not only relaxing, but it definitely spices things up (wink wink)
Double Date dinner at home
Do you love double dates? How about inviting another couple over for a beautiful meal?! You can prepare a meal or have the other couple bring something as well, set up the table with a tablecloth and table settings, and have a family-style type meal. Play some soft instrumental music in the background, create little menu cards, and have a good time. Who says you need a restaurant?!
In-house Chef
Instead of going to a restaurant where you have to wait to be seated and risk forgetting to make reservations (this is us all the time by the way) how about having a chef prepare a meal for you at home? There are many companies or contracted individuals that offer this service. Look into one and turn your kitchen into a 5 star restaurant kitchen!
Massage/Spa night
Who doesn’t need a massage? I need one as I’m typing this :). Creating an in-home spa is not impossible! You can get a flat board and put it on your bed, sofa, futon, daybed etc, and cover it with a sheet/sheets. Play soft, soothing instrumental music, put some essential oils into a diffuser and dim the lights to set the mood. All phones should be on silent and TV should be off. You and your partner can take turns giving each other massages. The best part? You don’t have to worry about a stranger touching you 😉
Fireplace Memories
Do you have a fireplace? Is it cold where you are? If so, you can use some comfy and thick comforters/sheets and make a bed near the fireplace, or even a sleeping bag. Choose the hot beverage of your choice, and get cozy by the fireplace, reminiscing on the days when you met, dated, etc.
Phew!
These are just a few ideas on ways to create a great date night at home. They’re simple enough for anyone to do, are fun, create intimate moments and opportunities, and mostly cost-effective! I hope you find these helpful and can start incorporating these soon. Dating your spouse, whether at home or out, is so important to a marriage.
With love,
