BEING A MOM…
If you’re like me at all, there are times when you take being a mom for granted. Yes, I’m thankful for being a mom. I love my kids with my whole being. But, let’s not act as if it doesn’t get overwhelming at times. It does. Between the feedings, diaper changes, naps, cooking, laundry, messes to clean up, kid songs that you have to memorize, school lunches, bedtime routines, baths, games, story time, etc exhaustion is an understatement! Then, add the expectations as a wife and managing a full time career. Ugh! At times, I miss those days when I was able to do whatever I wanted and slept for hours without interruption.
Sometimes I feel guilty about it, because I know there are those who are not able to have children, or are struggling to get pregnant…wishing they were in my position. Some days are easier than others, but the tasks don’t seem to change. Yet day in and day out, we continue to repeat the cycle…and we thrive!
“I am a WOMAN phenomenally, PHENOMENAL woman, that’s me”- Maya Angelou
It’s hard to explain the emotions that go through you when you look at your kids or look at a picture from when they were younger, hear the word “mama”, get unexpected kisses and hugs, or have those “cuddle” sessions that just melts your heart. It’s during those moments that you remember why you love being a mom. Sometimes it’s the multi-tasking and stressful days that you EASILY overcome, that makes you love being a mom.
We all thrive differently, in different situations.
If you’re like me, don’t feel guilty about those stressful/overwhelming feelings because they’re normal. Life has a way of making us feel that there are a number of things/tasks that are important or must get done. In reality, they’re not important! It’s making sure your family is loved, cared for, and protected that matters. Self-care is also very important. Let’s stop putting deadlines on things that don’t need it. Ask for help when you need it. Find time to relax. Don’t forget to enjoy every milestone! These moments go by so fast so stop being hard on yourself and enjoy being a MOM. (I needed to remind myself of that too.)
